Hemorrhoidal Banding (CRH)
Procedure
A rubber band is put around the base of the internal hemorrhoid. The band cuts off circulation to both the internal and external hemorrhoid, and the hemorrhoid withers away within a few days. Everyone has three hemorrhoidal veins that must all be treated in order for the banding to be successful. A minimum of three sessions is required in order to treat the hemorrhoids properly. These visits are scheduled two weeks apart to allow for adequate healing.
Painless
At Gastroenterology Consultants, we use the patented CRH-O’Regan Disposable Hemorrhoid Banding System, considered to be the “gold standard” treatment for hemorrhoids. The system is smaller and more comfortable for patients and uses gentle suction to grasp the hemorrhoid, thus significantly reducing the risk of pain and bleeding. The CRH O-Regan Disposable Banding System is the only hemorrhoidal removal treatment that requires no pain medication and virtually no recovery time. This procedure is painless and done without sedation to allow for the best placement of the rubber band. As no sedation is needed, there is no need for a driver to accompany the patient for the procedure.
Hassel-free
There is also no need for bowel prep or the placement of an IV. After the procedure, a high fiber diet and mild laxative is recommended and patients are instructed not to lift greater than ten pounds for the next three days. Patients can return to their regular activities on the same day.
Effective
In a large clinical trial, 99.1% of patients had complete resolution of their hemorrhoids with CRH O’Regan Banding System. Occasionally band ligation is not successful and an additional round of banding is attempted. The average treatments required for full results are 3.2 sessions. If after the second round of banding, symptoms continue, surgical evaluation is recommended.
